photography ~ Real life

Self-Portrait 30/52

Yet another week that I couldn’t seem to post a photo for my 52 week project on time. Not only that, I didn’t have a planned photo idea, or even set aside any time to dedicate to taking an image last week.  It was at 11:40pm on Sunday night that I thought “oh shit, I only have 20 minutes left to take a photo and post it for the week”, clearly that wasn’t happening.

I did take this photo above during the week, on Saturday, so it counts.  It was intended to use and keep with my personal family photos, but hey, I need something to post to stay on track! So here’s a peek into a real life moment. Usually when we are out doing family things I’ll try and prop my camera up somewhere and get a photo with all of us in it.  Here we are at the zoo. I took a handful of photos here on the bench, most of them I’m looking at the camera but this one seems to be my favorite. Look at me looking at my husband so adoringly, it’s cute, right?  When in all actuality I turned to him and accused him of making faces behind my back. He assured me he wasn’t, I didn’t believe him, “ya right, knock it off, jerk!”….. then I come home and look at the series of photos and notice that he had been telling the truth.  But I’m not going to admit I was wrong, nope! I’m not stupid.

photography ~ Disconnect

Self-portrait 29/52

I’ve been on vacation this past week and had this idea to come back and post a ton of photos (I took about 600 shots) and stories to go along with this weeks image, but as I sit here at my computer I realize that I just don’t want to sit behind my desk for any length of time.  So in an effort to keep things short and sweet, I’ll give you the condensed version.

I took my two little girls (ages 5 and 6) camping this week, this was their first real time camping, unless you count when one was a baby and the other one was still in the womb.  I just have to say, it was the best week I’ve had in a long time,  watching my kids explore outside and try some new things was the highlight for me, they loved everything about it.  We didn’t have the best weather the entire time, but what we had was the best attitude, and if you ask me… rainy days are made for splashing in puddles, which we did… a lot.  I didn’t realize how much I missed camping, I used to go quite often.  I love being in the woods, the smell of campfire is one I will never, ever, ever, ever get tired of, and to just disconnect and be there in the moment, it’s kind of perfect on every level.  Oh… and let’s not forget that first sip of morning coffee outside with nothing but trees and fresh air surrounding you… ahhh yes! I need more of that in my life.

So this weeks photo is of me at the campground lake, faceless, because when I go camping I don’t bother to put any makeup on or do my hair, I just don’t give a shit about all the things I normally care way too much about. Don’t get me wrong, taking a shower and shaving my legs was a real fucking treat when I got back home, and it’s always nice to smell good again.

I already want to go back though! I hear the woods calling me…. sigh.

This is how I feel every time I get in my SUV. 😀

We recently bought a 7 passenger SUV for me, because….kids.  As soon as I saw it I loved it, it’s a fully loaded Nissan Armada, Platinum addition. We bought it used to avoid car payments, you’d never know it was used though because it is in pristine condition, which made me want it even more.   It is however, a beast!  It’s so big in fact that even with the seat fully raised and the pedals moved up as far as they can go, I can’t see over the damn dash board. The struggle is real my friends.  Being 5′ 1″ has it’s perks, but in this situation….not so much.  Let’s just say that I have Googled “adult car booster seats” on more than one occasion, for real!  I’ve had the SUV for a few weeks now and am happy to say I’ve gotten used to driving it, with a thick pillow under my ass to lift me up…of course.

Happy to say that I’m at the half way point with this project.  Some weeks I’m more motivated than others. Lately I find myself waiting until the last minute to take a weekly shot. This one should have been posted yesterday to keep to my own goals. In all fairness though, I did take it yesterday morning, so that counts, but the sun and pool were calling my name and I couldn’t resist the temptation of enjoying those instead of posting this. Priorities!  This nice summer weather will be my downfall moving forward. Fingers crossed that I can continue on with the next 26 weeks.

Like always, all images can be seen bigger on Flickr.  I ramble on over there too, so if you want to read more stuff about nothing, go there.
